Casey Bailey, Ken Babinski and Victor Newell all tallied a goal and an assist while Alex Lyon made 42 saves in his USHL postseason debut as the Lancers took game one of their Western Conference semifinal series from Waterloo 4-2 Friday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
The Black Hawks opened the scoring as Aaron Pearce redirected Ian McCoshen’s left point shot into the net at 13:19 of the opening period. Omaha bounced right back just :18 later when Jimmy Murray released a backhand shot in the slot inside the left post.
After a scoreless second period, the Lancers grabbed their first lead of the night 6:17 into the final period when Newell threw a sharp angle shot from the left goal into the top of the Waterloo net.
The Black Hawks tied the game less than four minutes later when a two-on-one rush between Jamie Hill and Max Edson resulted in Edson’s first goal of the postseason at the 10:11 mark.
The Lancers again answered quickly, :47 later, on Babinski's goal. Omaha scored again with only :10 remaining in the game when Bailey put the puck into an empty net after Waterloo pulled their goalie for an extra skater.
Game two is Saturday night at the Civic.
