South Dakota State beat Creighton 5-2 Friday night at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
The first hit off Bluejay starter Erik Mattingly (0-2) in 12-straight innings came off the bat of SDSU catcher Zach Briggs, who would come around to score the first run of the game in the third. Single runs in the fifth and seventh sandwiched a pair of runs in the sixth by the Jackrabbits (11-17-1).
The Bluejays (14-17) scored both of their runs in the eighth inning. Brennan Murphy singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Jordan Makovicka pinch-hit, grounding out to the second baseman, but advancing Murphy to third. Chance Ross drove in Murphy with an infield single. Anthony Bemboom then doubled scoring Ross.
Creighton will play a single game Saturday against Iowa. Due to the projected inclement weather, the game will start 45 minutes following the conclusion of the Iowa-South Dakota State game, with that first pitch set for 10 a.m.
