A major storm dropped up to 10 inches of snow on most of western and north-central Nebraska as winds created drifts 2-5 feet deep on Sunday. The storm prompted some highway closures in the Panhandle.

National Weather Service forecaster Bill Taylor says the snowfall was starting to taper off Sunday afternoon, but the wind could still cause problems. So blizzard warnings will remain in effect for much of western Nebraska until midnight.

Snowfall totals ranged between four and 10 inches across western Nebraska. The highest total was reported about 40 miles northwest of North Platte. Wind gusts up to 57 mph were reported in Thedford.

Power was out in Atkinson and Bassett earlier Sunday, but the Nebraska Public Power District was able to restore electricity by late morning.
