Valley Woman Killed In Crash

A driver was killed in a two-vehicle collision Thursday morning near Valley.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Department says a pickup driven by Tammy Harris of Valley was eastbound on Ida Street near Old Highway 275 when the truck went out of control around 6:45 a.m. and slid into an oncoming van driven by Noah Brase of Yutan.

The front of the van struck the passenger door of the pickup. The 48-year-old Harris died at the scene. Brase was taken to Alegent Creighton University Medical Center with serious injuries. No tickets were issued.

Investigators believe fog formed ice on the Ida Street overpass over old Highway 275. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The scenario was similar to what Diana Bryant experienced on her way into the Eclectic Gift Shop in Valley Thursday morning. "I was driving down the same streets I always do, there was nothing on the roads, I was driving about 55 and I went to stop and I absolutely could not stop."

Bryant slid into the path of a truck, but it was far enough away for her to regain control and make it into work with just a scare.

Curt Goracke said when he headed into his Touch of Class salon early in the morning it was a different story, but over a short period of time conditions drastically changed. "I arrived at 5:15 a.m. in clear conditions and by 6:30 and 7 we’re talking about heavy fog, so that's how that went."
