Vickie And Alex Remembered
Vickie Lee and Alex Vargas were newlyweds and they were looking forward to celebrating the union with family and friends.
They were quietly married October 22 and just six weeks later their lives were taken near Ewing, Nebraska in what investigators call a double homicide. A suspect is in custody.
Brittany Lee, Vickie's younger sister, told Channel 6 News, "in recent weeks my sister had never been happier."
At 25 years old, Vickie had a bright future. She was just a few credit hours away from a UNO degree in political science.
Her interest in that subject was no surprise since she was voted onto the Missouri Valley Iowa City Council at age 18. Mayor Clint Sargent told Channel 6, "Vickie served all four years and worked hard to make our town better."
Alex Vargas attended Central High School and according to his older brother Eric, Alex and Vickie were planning to move from Ewing to Omaha this weekend.
The two met on a dance floor when they were in a class on ballroom dancing.
Eric Vargas Jr, told Channel 6, "My uncle Alex tried to teach me and my brother how to dance." "He was always laughing and was a great guy."
Funeral arrangements are pending.
The Missouri Valley Class of 2005 is staging a fundraiser to help with Vickie's funeral expenses: https://www.facebook.com/events/581904981825526/?fref=ts
