A former payroll manager at the Nebraska Book Company in Lincoln has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison after she pleaded guilty to a wire fraud charge.
Prosecutors say Melissa Ormonde of Hickman was also ordered to repay nearly $238,000 that she embezzled from the company during her three years of employment.
The U.S. attorney's office says Ormonde created a fake employee and had his wages deposited to one of her bank accounts.
In October 2011, she continued to pay an employee who had been terminated, but directed the money to one of her accounts.
The company later discovered duplicate paychecks for 23 other employees that dated back to 2008.
Ormonde must serve three years of supervised release once her prison term ends.
