The Channel 6 News Weather Authority has declared Wednesday a Weather Alert day. Air temperatures are forecast to climb above 100° this afternoon thanks to a southwest wind at 15-25 mph. That heat combined with high humidity will create heat index values in the 105° to 110° range.
A hot and humid air mass is settling in over the entire Midwest this week. Highs are forecast to reach into the triple digits over much of the area late this afternoon.

These conditions create an increased risk for heat exhaustion or heat stroke for those working or playing outdoors.
Safety precautions include: limiting exposure to the sun, drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks.
Temperatures will moderate slightly on Thursday but high temperatures are still forecast to reach into the mid 90's with plenty of humidity.
