Student Car Wash Benefits Late Classmate's Family

Blue skies and sunshine made Thursday the perfect day for a car wash. Students from Omaha’s Liberty Elementary School held the event to benefit the family of former classmate Isaiah Griffin, who drowned in Lake Manawa two weeks ago.

Griffin was there with the Open Door Mission Bible Day Camp.

Organizers said the car wash at 21st and St. Mary’s Avenue was already planned as a part of their Summer Camp Career Week. After the tragedy, they wanted to help the Griffin family.

“A lot of our people who are downtown have come by so we are really fortunate and then people who are driving by are just stopping in,” said principal Ika Oberst. “So we have great community support here."
