College World Series Ticket Owners, Finally

College World Series Ticket Owners, Finally

Knowing someone with College World Series tickets is one thing. Getting them to sell them to you is something altogether different.

The yearly hunt for tickets can be stressful, but Channel 6 News met two friends who don't have to worry about CWS tickets ever again. They were just a couple of guys from south Omaha, working the graveyard shift and dreaming of getting College World Series tickets in Rosenblatt Stadium.

Those dreams came true this year, after only 15 years of waiting they finally got to see a CWS game from their own seats. Dennis McCann and Larry Lavelle may be the two happiest men at the College World Series.

"I was shocked," says McCann. "I thought it was my normal Dear John letter. Here I was thinking they were telling us, nice going but you didn't get it again and I said whoa, this is different."

It was like winning the lottery. No longer would they have to scrounge for game tickets.

That's what Bob Burkett is doing now. Early in the CWS, tickets are hard to come by and Saturday Bob was still searching for a ticket minutes before the first pitch. "Rosenblatt, you kind of knew where to go and this is only the second year down here so it's kind of tough, but usually if you went out by the statue at Rosenblatt you were usually pretty lucky."

Burkett found some help and managed to negotiate a fair price and still made it to his seat before the game got underway.

Dennis and Larry remember those times because it was just last year they found themselves sometimes scrambling for a seat. Now the two friends can take their time because their seats are reserved.

"It's kind of nice when we get to this age we don't have to wait in line at the general admission gate," says Lavelle. "We can go up and sit down." They can relax and enjoy the game their watching because they already have tickets for the next one.

Dennis and Larry say that they were working the graveyard shift talking about the College World Series when they decided to request tickets. It was so long ago that they faxed their request in and kept renewing the request every year.
