Source Says Stacey Won't Be Fired Over Comments

Sources: Stacey Won't Be Fired

A source in Bellevue told Channel 6 News Wednesday while the exact discipline is not known, Police Chief John Stacey will not be fired as a result of comments he made in front of a 12-year-old girl during a tour of the Bellevue fire station.

Stacey was placed on administrative leave May 2nd with pay over the comments.

Sources who are close to the investigation gave an account to Channel Six Fact Finders of what Chief Stacey allegedly said during the tour of the fire station.

The 12-year-old girl mentions braces and sources say Stacey made a locker room comment to others in the room that she should service her boyfriends first.

The following statement was issued on Wednesday by Bellevue City Administrator Dan Berlowitz:

“As you are award Police Chief Stacey is on administrative leave. The reason(s) Chief Stacey is on administrative leave is a personnel matter which the City of Bellevue maintains as confidential. Nevertheless, you can be assured that the City is properly addressing all matters associated therewith in a thoughtful, thorough and expeditious matter.

Despite Police Chief Stacey’s absence, the City is confident in the ability of the Bellevue Police Department to effectively serve the community in carrying out its law enforcement responsibilities.”

Bellevue City Attorney would not confirm or deny that Stacey’s punishment, only to say he is on administrative leave.

The issue regarding whether or not Stacey illegally gave a gun to former Gretna City Administrator Colleen Lawry was not looked into by the City of Bellevue.

Sarpy County Attorney Lee Polikov told WOWT on Wednesday that the Sarpy County Sheriff's Department is still sorting through emails, and Friday there should be some answers on the gun transaction.

The city had been expected to have the results of the investigation on Tuesday.
