What a sad and unfortunate situation for these individuals. As far as hurtful comments, please do not allow them to upset you. It is very typical for some people to post extremely hurtful comments when others are suffering. Please know, family and friends if the victims, there is a much larger percentage if people with positive thoughts and prayers. Do not give those with hurtful comments the satisfaction of a reply. Best wishes to the victims and praying for the strength of the family and friends who are there for support.

my prayers are with this family. i pray they make a full quick recovery. to the people making negitive comments.....just because you would do it different keep those comments to yourself. there family reads these comments and will make them feel horrible. if you wouldnt say it to your family member or wouldnt like to have someone say it to your family member keep it to your self out of respect for the family that is involved. prayers for the family

well of course it has to be someone's fault..there is no such thing as an accident anymore. If a tree falls in the campground, which attorney do we call? sorry these folks got hurt, but it is not the DNR's fault.

Exactly what I was thinking. Word was out that it was being forecasted.

A lot of people have opinions without knowing the facts. 1) They were not camped under a tree, in fact I would not have thought they were in danger where they were. This was a BIG tree that set back probably 5-10' into a wooded area that snapped off about 3-4' up the trunk and fell. 2)For those of us who were sleeping, there was not any warning. Within 10 minutes we went from breezy and a light rain to strong winds, heavy rain, lightning/thunder and hail. I know because I was there in our RV and it was scary. By the time I woke up and put a robe on we had hail. We have been praying for the family every since the sun came up and our facebook friends are too. For those of you that know the family, please let them know that there are many of us lifting them up in prayer and we will continue to. It is a miracle that they are alive. As for who is at fault, who knows. If DNR does not have a policy to clear out dead wood around the campground, they ought to change it (and I personally think they should have warned those people who did not have shelter to go to one.) But that's a moot point now. They and their family are in our thoughts and prayers.

I agree with Heather. This was no ones fault to begin with. And its apparent that many campers were out lastnight. This is a truly sad story, and most of you are being trolls about the situation. I feel sorry and pray for this family, but more so I feel sorry for all of you that have no love in your hearts. Dont Judge People Period.

Why would you have your family, especially a small child out in that weather last night???? They called it on the news before bedtime, don't know why people go out in it any way. Silly!! I hope the family is okay, but still seems like they could have made a better decision.

The Family is in my prayers.... These comments that are not nice need to keep them to themselves, yes maybe the thunder woke them up but it is not their fault a tree fell on them. Unfortunately it was a act of God and that is not their faults. Yes DNR should have went to the tents to warn them to go to safety THAT IS THEIR JOBS!!!! I grew up camping and swimming in lakes and I have been warned by the DNR to take some type of shelter. If you ave nothing nice to say don't say anything at all!!!

You know what if this was your family you wouldnt be saying stuff like that and being all sarcastic. These people are so close to me they are like family and they are not doing very well. All they wanted was a night together and something terrible happened. The thunder did not wake them up and they are all in very critical condition. They dont need all this negativity they need positivity. And what you people are saying is not helping anybody. If the family sees these comments they are going to cry. And I am sure if this was your family you would not want to see comments like this.

first of all the tree was completly dead and I dont think that it is anyones fault but maybe if a big tree like that is dead they could at least either cut it down or not let anyone camp at those spots until it is gone and I think if you do not have nothing nice to say you should not post on here THANKS

Chris is very correct. Stay away from trees when camping. Trees will attract lightening which will be transferred to the ground. This can be deadly of you are sleeping in a tent. As with trees, they can kill and injure people. Branches can fall, in this case the entire tree fell. People must recognize the very real danger of trees.

Im sorry hwos to say what should wake someone up expecialy while camping all I know is some sleep harder then others and let me tell u the tree didnt have one live leaf it should of been cut down and if it was then my best friend wouldnt be lieing in icu not saying it is the parks fault but if the subject of cutting the tree down was a issue the please dont hesitate cutting down ne more dead trees

I wish this family a fast recovery. If it is the parks fault, I say remove all the trees in all the parks, we dont need any trees, our state parks should be fully paved. Also if they would just drain all the lakes it would cut down on the drownings.

I'm pretty sure the thunder alone woke them up. The only thing that could possibly be the park's fault would be not removing dead trees. Although this storm was pretty bad. A friend of mine lost a perfectly healthy tree in her yard too...

One of the first rules of camping is to NEVER pitch you tent under a tree. This is why. Hope they recover quickly, but it was their own fault.
