A motorcyclist was injured in an apparent high-speed crash Sunday morning in Omaha.

Police said 31-year-old Dennys Aguilar of Omaha drove past some barricades on South 24th Street just after 1:30 a.m. The street was closed for the Cinco de Mayo Festival.

Aguilar slammed into a metal gate and went flying off the bike. Witnesses said he was speeding. "He and the motorcycle slid about 200-300 feet," said Omaha Police Traffic Unit Sgt. Jason Menning. "Right now it's a possibility that he might have lost one of his legs due to the accident. He's in surgery at Creighton Medical Center right now."

Doctors said Aguilar’s leg will likely have to be amputated. He was in stable condition at the hospital.
