Nebraska officials are promoting the first national "Bike to School Day," being recognized on Wednesday.
"Bike to School Day" seeks to raise awareness about the need for safe routes to bike and walk. It also emphasizes the importance of such issues as increasing physical activity among children, reducing traffic congestion and protecting the environment.
Nebraska schools and community groups can register their events at www.walkbiketoschool.org. As part of the national event, the National Center for Safe Routes to School will give away 10 bike racks in partnership with Saris Cycling Group. All groups who register National Bike to School Day events are automatically entered to win.
