Family Ties Broken, Brother Testifies

Family ties are broken as Gary Lee takes the stand against his sister. Monique Lee is being tried for the murder of her landlord, Karen Jenkins, back in October of 2010.

Her brother, Gary Lee has cut a deal with prosecutors for his testimony.

The Lee jury listened much of the day to testimony centered on DNA - blood splatters - buckle swabs and probabilities. But as solid as the science is behind DNA - many believe the testimony of Monique Lee's brother Gary could be the determining factor in this case.

For days people have been waiting for Gary Lee to take the stand. Monique's brother Gary cut a deal with prosecutors; he would be allowed to plead guilty to 2nd degree murder if he would testify against his sister.

It didn't take Gary Lee long to get to the events surrounding Karen Jenkins murder.

Gary told the jury how Karen was showing him an apartment when his sister ran in and attacked Jenkins. Gary Lee said "Karen is yelling at Monique to get off of her then asks me for help." at this point Karen doesn't know Monique and Gary are brother and sister.

Gary panics and starts to leave but Monique calls out to him for help. Gary told the jury, "I went back into the apartment and held her (Karen's) legs until she stopped moving." through tears he added, "I've never done anything like that before in my life, I was terrified."

For the Jenkins family it was difficult to hear about Karen's last moments, asking for help from the person who ended up assisting in her murder.

According to Gary Lee he was to lure Karen Jenkins to a vacant apartment under the pretext that he wanted to rent it. Again, according to Gary, Monique's plan was to kidnap Karen Jenkins and release her after a couple of days.
