Wow. Glad the neighbor was there to help. Hope the older brother was running to tell the parents what happened instead of just leaving his sister out there while she was hurt. Hope she gets better fast.

As stated before, maternal instincts kick in when most women see a hurt baby. No, picking the child up is not a good idea with a possible spinal injury, but it is just your first instinct to cradle and comfort them. I'm sure this person just did the first thing that popped into their head. Glad the baby is o.k.

Thoughts and prayers are with the little girl and her family. It is sad to see people focus on the wrong thing here...instead of many sending prayers they are ridiculing the neighbor for picking up the child. Maternal instinct kicks in and you want to comfort the hurt crying child!!

Although common reaction when you see a hurt/crying child is to pick them up and try to comfort them. At this time it is usually the maternal instincts that kick in rather than the technical!

You're absolutely right, Barbara. I'm stunned the neighbor didn't know to NOT pick her up. Even more so because she found the little one lying on the hard concrete and on her back. The baby could've injured her spinal cord, by picking her up, it definitely could've crippled her. On one hand I'm so glad the neighbor was there to help right away, but on the other hand I'm upset that she picked her up. The damage is already done, she very well could have caused more injury by moving her head/picking her up. Let this be a lesson learned to the neighbor I guess, but glad she helped her!

my thoughts exactally!

In the case of an accident like this you should NEVER pick up the injured person! You could have crippled this child! Hold their head still so they don't move and call 911!

Unless the kid was in immediate danger, probably shouldn't have picked up/moved the kid, could have caused more injury. Hope all is well regardless.

This is my friend's daughter. I hope she has a speedy recovery. I think she will fight well :)
