This is truly sad and gives Gretna a bad name. Hey City - instead of throwing our money away on non-required uniforms and musical tickets why not use it to fix our poisoned water!
I wonder who the "pair" of lion king tickets were for? I see more coming out of this. Wait.
I do not live in Gretna, but sounds like there will be more news on this fiasco. What is wrong with these people? It is not your money. We need to here more about these audits. We had them in Omaha, but have not heard anymore. Sad that we have all of this going on. It needs to stop.
The public trust and confidence in Gretna officals to monitor and distribute our tax dollars appropriately has been destroyed by City Administrator Lawry and Mayor McGuire is just as bad for supporting and explaining her inappropriate expenditures. It will be a long time before the public trust will return in this city. Lawry deserves to sit in jail and to be prosecuted accordingly. Mayor McGuire should apologize to all of the residents of Gretna and to avoid further embarressment, step down and let's get a true leader for our city. Shame on both of you!!!!
If they did a top to bottom audit of the city of Omaha and published what they do with the taxpayers dollars there would be a tar and feather party of epic proportions.
Time for a mayoral change as well.
Are you serious. It sounds like you're just making excuses for her. How sympathic would you be if this was your money she was spending. There are ways of going about things and she didn't follow proper procedure. She had to know what she was doing was wrong, just felt she wouldn't get caught.
Why is the Mayor so critical of the State Auditor, maybe she should try and keep her own house in order than the State wouldn't have to do her job
Yes, you are absolutely correct. She was not "entrapped", she was CAUGHT. Her greediness and self centered ways finally caught up with her. The auditor's letter should be distributed to all of the citizens of Gretna. Colleen has abused her position at city hall for too long, and it is time it came to and end. I hope they keep digiing deeper because there is a lot more to this story than the citizens of Gretna or the city council know. I am just waiting for the other shoe to drop - the administrator was not the only one who abused their position at city hall.
So a day after the Mayor and City Attorney John Green clear Ms. Lawry of any wrongdoing-she is fired and arrested??!-Sounds like Gretna needs a new City Administrator, Mayor and Attorney. Hopefully, Mayor McGuire will do the right thing and resign-what a cess pool in Gretna!
She was about 45 minutes from home and could have easily made the drive (in her city-owned car). The cost of the gas would have been less than the nights in a hotel (and meals). A 45-minute commute is not a big deal for most people and many companies will not authorize an overnight stay except for extreme necessity or weather conditions that would result in the closing of major highways.
I just read through the auditor's report and documentation. It is not just an occasional thing here and there. She was playing very fast and loose with money belonging to the taxpayers of Gretna. If you live in Gretna and are not outraged by this, you must be crazy. Trips all over the country for "professional development", $91 at a nail salon, over $800 for Uniforms at various retail clothing shops. It is not just a little misunderstanding.
But why should the residence of Gretna have to float ANYONE a loan? Read the letter & supporting documentation & you'll see that she charged $91 to a nail spa, multiple store locations for clothes, 30 gallons of gas within 2 days & then reimbursed the city credit card by writing a personal check. No, I will not condone using taxpayer money for personal gain (whether it's reimbursed at a later date or not). If you can't pay for items for your personal use yourself, then I guess you do without like the rest of us!
Nice????? The whole Gretna City Council was not nice, including Colleen! She got caught... 90K salary plus company car, and then uses our tax money... yeah, that's a nice woman right there as the county administrator.
