Pomfret Shooting

Bellevue police confirmed Thursday that 21-year-old Michala Pomfret has died. Pomfret was shot several times Tuesday morning during an altercation with her stepfather.

Family, friends and loved ones surrounded Pomfret's bedside throughout Wednesday and into the early hours of Thursday. Michala passed away Thursday in the 3 a.m. hour, according to Bellevue Police.

Following Michala's passing Thursday morning, her organs were donated to help save the life of three people.

Funeral services for Michala have been scheduled for Saturday April 14th at 4pm at the Bellevue Memorial Chapel. Immediately following, there will be a celebration of life reception at the Bellevue Volunteer Fire Hall.

Friends and family gathered Thursday night at Papa Chris' Chicago Originals near 69th & Maple Streets to celebrate Pomfret's life. At the benefit, donations were accepted on behalf of Pomfret. Ten percent of Papa Chris' sales were also donated.

Event organizer Asher Novotny said he will take all of Thursday's donations from the benefit to the Olive Garden where Pomfret worked. The Olive Garden will match the donations dollar for dollar.

There are new details that led up to Michael Williams, Michala's stepfather, allegedly shooting her in the face. He remains hospitalized at the Bellevue Medical Center. Police said Thursday morning that based on what they know now, the 36-year-old Williams is expected to survive.

Neighbor Sean Schooley told Channel 6 News Williams had just moved into a basement apartment at the Fontainbleau Apartments at 29th and Crawford Streets in Bellevue three weeks ago. It's a block from the shooting scene, where Michala and her mother were living.

Williams had recently separated from his wife, Michala's mother. He was unemployed and his benefits had run out. Schooley described the last moments he had with Williams before seeing him wheeled away in an ambulance.

"It was just really devastating to find out that he was, in fact, not looking for work and this may have been one of the causing jump-off points for this."
