The city of Omaha told neighbors of Morton pool Tuesday evening that the cost to repair it is too expensive -- so the pool will be demolished.
According to city leaders, it would cost more than $500,000 to fix the pool at 37th and P Streets.
One possibility for a replacement would be a splash park.
Not all neighbors are happy that the pool would go away but many are hopeful to get use out of the area that has been closed two of the last three years.
"Well I'm glad that they have some ideas that we can discuss," said Lynn Robeson of Omaha. "It's something that needs to be done because it's a park that is used by a lot of people."
One thing Robeson and other neighbors want -- increased lighting so that graffiti vandals don't have the cover of darkness to do their work.
The city hopes to have a plan for demolition in place this year so the park can reopen in 2013.
The City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department says it has been evaluating the Morton Neighborhood Pool status over the past couple of years.
The city says the pool will be closed during 2012 due to mechanical problems.
