Are you serious? Obama has an agenda and coal and nuclear are not in it! People like you need to start thinking outside the box...don't believe everything the media tells you.

The EPA ( Under Obama's people) just made it impossible, cost wise, for any utility to build a coal fired plant and the ones running now will most likely be shut down due to further regulations by the EPA. If you think its expensive now just wait. Fort Calhouns issues have to do with poor management than what the flood damage was.

I do not mind that the government wants each of us to explore different options when it comes to energy conservation. But what really bothers me is that for the common person these systems can not remotely be affored. The use of small residential wind turbines are extremely expensive to purchase and install. Solor sources seem to be just as expensive. So what really does our elected officials want the common person to do? I would be all for other options if they were even remotely affordable.

Solar is the way to go. When there's a huge solar energy spill, it's just called a "nice day."

How does a poorly managed plant have anything to do with Obama? And you'd rather have an unsafe plant operating?

87 degrees and be "very" comfortable? get real hippie. I raise mine to 78 and it's plenty warm at that.

Thank the NRC for their micro managing our plant along with the Obama Administration gearing us up to pay more for untilities. Good luck poor people.

A couple posted some very worthwhile information. We visited Orient Beach nude resort two years ago on a whim and in no time we were very comfortable. Last summer we found that we too could be cool inside the house with a fan running and the thermostat set at about 87. We would grill dinner out back so as not to heat up the kitchen. We found the TV will provide adequate light so we turned off the lights. We were really able to lower our electrical bill. Some outside the box thinking might get is through this period.

It would take 3 or 4 coal fired plants to replace it. Its also the SMALLEST reactor in the country- far smaller than Fukushima, not subject to tsunami or earthquake and was also overhauled 2 or 3 years ago. It should be good for 30 more years. The air pollution you are talking about with just 3 new coal plants is staggering. While I agree the risk is still there- its no worse a risk than doing things the other way.

I smell a rate increase! They have the keystone cops running the Fort Calhoun plant but the consumers pay the price for their incompetence.

Air Conditioning will cause a big demand for electricity this summer but people can turn the AC up to about 85 to 87 degrees and be very comfortable. You would be shocked how warm the body can be just wearing snorts and a 'T' Shirt. We remove our clothing when we get home from work and the kids from school. Luckily, our back yard is secluded so the kids can play outside. We also have far less laundry, we save on energy, water and detergent. We must conserve.

$32 million plus $75 million flood damage, $10 million to dispose of spent fuel rods, etc.,etc. What is the design life of this thing? 40 years and pushing it. Lets shut it down before Omaha becomes a dead zone like Fukishima. I just heard yesterday Japan shut down several of its nuke plants because they were cooled by fresh water supplies. Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure sounds like they're gearing up for another rate increase. Whatdya wanna bet?
