Several have posted some noteworthy ideas about keeping comfortable while using less energy. The human body cools though perspiration. Air blowing over the skin allows the body to cool. We defeat this very effective body cooling by draping clothing over our skin. If the torso and trunk are covered by clothing a large percentage of body mass is covered thus reducing natural cooling. Primitive people in the tropics understand this and might be smarter than we are.

Electricity does not remain stagnant like water in a pipe so you cannot conserve thinking electricity will go unused in the wire by turning off the lights. Nor will this make any difference at he generator which has heat chambers as big as a two story house. It takes a long time to cool these chambers down to produce less power. You can pay less by using less which will cause your meter to spin less and will leave more money in your pocketbook. But, you won't 'save the planet'.

I believe so, and they handled the flooding so terribly while lying to the NRC the entire time. They were having problems before the flood, but the flood acted as a reason to shut them down. I'm against too much federal regulation, but nuclear is definitely an area where its needed and OPPD fumbled the ball here.

So the body is warm wearing just shorts and T-Shirt, so you remove your clothing when you get home from work and the kids from school. Am I the only one who thinks having the entire family naked is a weird solution? Also, I turn the AC to 77 and that's plenty warm for me.

We know people who live on Thunder Mountain outside of Drake CO. They have no utilities. Many have large solar panels providing energy to charge large banks of batteries. They must have back-up gasoline or propane powered generators to provide electricity during periods of several overcast days when charging is insufficient. Solar is very expensive and is unreliable.

I'm assuming you get your information from some form of media (Fox News?). Also, I know for a fact there is a coal plant in Nebraska that, under Bush, got ordered to install scrubbers on the stacks. However, under Obama, they have been told that they do not need to do it. Grow up.

To those considering installing wind and solar for their home, be very careful, don't believe the hype and do the math. Solar will only achieve maximum effectiveness during the summer when the sun is high in the sky between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Promoters say the system will pay for itself in 10 years but that's assuming no maintenance. The seals and gaskets on the panels will last for 3 to 5 years and need replacing. $$$. You will also need to clean the glass and remove snow. Pray for no hail. It's best to consider these systems as a scam.

And bonuses for the management.

It's all a conspiracy. They're intentionally keeping the plant down so they can increase the rates from having to buy energy.

Your good ole' buddy George W. didn't help matters either. Obama got quite a few ideas for his agenda from George W. Bush.

I keep my house at 73 degrees year round I will pay ectra to stay comfortable in my own home instead of living like a hippie/bum.

The Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant had been battling poor management many other problems BEFORE Obama took office. Electrical boxes don't just magically catch on fire.

They need to shut the old beast down for good, before it melts down. The Homers that work there can only due so much with duct tape and prayers.

One bad hail storm and all the "free" energy is not.
