There are already power plants built that burn natural gas, lots of them. They call them Gas Turbines.

Since the US has such a huge surpluse of natural gas, why not build a natural gas plant? It burns clean enough right? No nuclear waste, and obviuosly no meltdown.

For your information, the working stiffs of OPPD have not had a true pay raise in the last 20 years. The only thing they get is a "Cost of Living" increase which does not come even close to the true increase in the cost of living. This year they do not want to give us anything. However, upper management never misses their raise and bonus.

The "normal" temperature most people set their at is 77 or 78. 68 is ridiculously low. And btw - if you know how thermostats work, if the temperature is lower than what you have set, it doesn't heat your house up when you have it set to "cool".

Don't think my employer will allow me to show up at work with nothing but a loin cloth and sandals. We can't even wear shorts and sleeveless shirts.

OPPD gets only half the production at NC2- thats about 300MW. Ft Calhoun produces about 480 and is entirely owned by OPPD. NC2 also dumps 60,000 tons of Carbon Dioxide into the air each year- Ft Calhoun zero.

3 or 4 coal fired plants to replace it? Nope. There are plenty of coal plants that have higher capacity than Fort Calhoun -- either unit at Nebraska City for example.

You would lose that bet.

Yup, you are the one who is weird, 'What'. Some well meaning people are trying to give good advice to avoid BrownOuts and you add a weird content. That is disgusting. People in the tropics and sub tropics are sans clothing during the heat of the day. Our ancestors did this in prehistory. Even today in come Caribbean vacations spots and in the South of France clothing is not worn on the beach. Get a life 'What', and get your head out of the gutter.

There is a thing called NIGHT that makes solar impractical as a primary energy source. Not to mention all the cloudy days we have here. Solar may be good for a secondary source, but it could never be the primary source. You NEED something like coal, oil, nuclear, hydo to act as a primary source because they are always there no matter the weather.

We have it good in America, and the heartland even more so. Honestly, as I sit down this Easter I'd have to say that we are more than blessed that this is even a concern to us. We'll borrow some electricity now and then loan it back out once our plant is safely at full capacity. We will be fine.

I'll bet that management still will get a raise along with the employee's this year!
