Teen Homicide Victim Identified
Teen Omaha's Latest Homicide Victim

An 18-year-old girl shot early Sunday morning later died at Alegent Creighton University Medical Center.

Tre'Veona Smith was shot in the face through the window of a home near 42nd and Browne streets, between Ames Avenue and the Sorensen Parkway, around 3:45 a.m.

“I got up and I was like, did I hear it? Is that what I heard and then about five minutes later the police came,” said a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified. “I heard three gunshots, looked to see if there was anything I could see. I didn't see any vehicles pulling away fast or anything like that. There was about 13 cops lined up and down the street.”

Police say the shooting may have stemmed from a house party in the area.

Residents on Browne Street are scared, but not necessarily surprised about the violence on their block. Two months ago, there was another shooting down the street where several houses were hit by gunfire. “It’s scary. It seems like crime is happening more and more. I just want to get out.”

According to her Facebook page, Smith was a student at Northwest High School. Anyone with information about the murder is asked to call police at 402-444-5652.
