Korver Volunteers To Improve Homes

The “Better Together Movement" is sweeping through north Omaha. A few familiar faces on the hardwood were helping revitalize homes on Saturday.

Hundreds of volunteers were painting several homes and gutting others to be restored near 33rd and Fowler. It's part of the Abide Network's dream to help more families own homes.

"In north Omaha, this part of the city we have a lot of homes that are vacant, a lot of homes that are not being used and we have a lot of people that are looking not only to be in homes, but really to have some home ownership to provide some stability for their families some consistency," said Josh Dotzler with the Abide Network.

Current Creighton University basketball players took some time before the school year starts to get their hands dirty while former players are also pitching in.

Ex-Bluejay Kyle Korver is heading into his 10th year in the NBA and first with the Atlanta Hawks. He's enjoyed working with the Abide Network for the last few years. He said Omaha is like his second home and seeing the passion to improve others lives is something he likes to do with his own foundation, also.

"We're just trying to help them out, you want to get behind people where things are happening. As a foundation we don't want to give money just to make ourselves feel better, we want to see real holistic change happening and every year we come back and you see the progress and you see the homes that you've helped fix up a little and it brings energy and makes you excited."

The Abide Network has been redoing homes and improving lives for 23 years.
