A man charged with driving under the influence was arrested at one of the most unlikely places -- the La Vista Police Department.
An officer noticed a car parked at the garage door, which is attached to the La Vista Police Headquarters, early Sunday morning.
La Vista Police Chief Bob Lausten told Channel 6 News the driver had the car in gear and his foot on the brake, when an officer approached the vehicle. The driver was slumped over the wheel.
Police Chief Bob Lausten said, "Thankfully it was just a drunk who was lost, but if the garage had been opened he could have continued on in to the testing center for a drive through drunk driving test. On the other hand, he could have gone right through the door if he'd kept going."
Chief Lausten said the officer opened the garage door and escorted the driver inside to have his blood alcohol level tested.
Twenty-one-year-old Anthony Schovanek tested .15 and was arrested for aggravated driving under the influence after
Schovanek told the officer he thought he had pulled up to the sheriff's office in Council Bluffs; however, he did not say why he wanted to go to the sheriff's office.
Schovanek posted $4,500 bond and was released.
