The Nebraska Supreme Court's "Through the Eyes of the Child" initiative is sponsoring a free lecture series in communities throughout the state on issues relating to children in the state's foster care system.

The initiative, launched in 2006, created 25 court teams across
the state. The teams develop better ways to handle abuse and
neglect cases in their courts with one goal being to reduce the
number of children in foster care.

The first lecture series will be offered in late April in South
Sioux City, Hastings and Papillion. It will explore Nebraska's
effectiveness in foster care case management.

The second series will be held in mid-May in North Platte,
Lincoln and Omaha. It will discuss the use of psychotropic
medications for children and non-pharmacological alternatives.
