Marines, Airmen Welcomed Home

It's an emotional homecoming for people in two branches of service. Families of Maries and Airmen and Airwomen welcomed their loved ones back to American soil.

Five U.S. Marines and two Airmen with the U.S. Air Force were welcomed home at Eppley Airfield on Saturday morning. The Patriot Guard Riders were on hand to escort the Marines back to their base.

The Marines served 7 months in Afghanistan with the Engineer Maintenance Company, while the personnel with the Air Force were deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan for 6 months.

Nicole Hansen, a Clinical Nurse with the U.S. Air Force, said she was glad to see her daughter Marissa. Her daughter was surprised by her return.

"I feel like I can't believe I'm here,ā€ Hansen explained. "I couldn't believe that she was actually here and she's gotten really tall so I didn't think I'd be able to pick her up."

ā€œ(I’m) pretty excited. They told me my uncle was coming instead of my mom,ā€ said 8-year-old Marissa.

A welcome home ceremony was held for the Marines back at their center on Saturday.
