The fountain leading visitors to the newly renovated Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium was installed Friday.
The fountain is a twelve foot tall sculpture featuring larger than life replicas of aquatic species including Southern sting rays, coral and starfish. Sculpted out of bronze, it features colors such as blue, copper and green. The name, Aquatic Rhapsody, describes how the sculpture elements create an underwater symphony.
A fun feature for kids is the water that will cascade off the wings of the bronzed animals.
Artist Matthew Placzek said, “I loved working on this piece; it has so much life which you will understand once you see it.”
The fountain was designed in a way so it can be a stand-alone sculpture with no water and enjoyed year round. In addition to the fountain, the area will feature limestone benches where visitors can share a seat with colorful starfish, also designed by Placzek.
The aquarium opens to visitors on April 5th.
