Septemberfest is here and after some issues in the past, organizers and police are working to make it the best it's ever been.
Whether it’s for the dizzying rides, the games, or yummy food the carnival is every little kid's dream.
Teri Laing came on Sunday afternoon to enjoy the day with her young son.
“Its hot, sweaty, and the kids are having fun, it’s a great time,” says Laing.
It’s that family fun event organizers and Omaha Police want to maintain. They have an increased presence at the event, including officers on foot and on bicycles. There are also officers patrolling traffic and other security companies helping out as well.
“When you have large events like this, you have an increased chance for theft and stuff like that so we try to increase patrols in the area to prevent that from happening,” says Sgt. Chris Perkins.
In past years, there have been problems with fights breaking out, but so far this year police they haven't had any issues. Laing says she’s glad the police are present.
“I’m thankful that they do have the security that they do have considering what's been going on lately here in Omaha,” says Laing. “The shootings, killings, and murders and everything else that's bad.”
Septemberfest runs through Monday from noon to midnight just north of the Century Link Center downtown.
