Fire Station Lockdown

Two sources explained to Channel 6 News Wednesday the reason why all Omaha firehouses were placed on lockdown for several hours Tuesday.

It seems a firefighter showed up at central headquarters and appeared to be drunk. He tried to resign and was asked to leave. Sources say he had driven a government issued vehicle to the station and firefighters saw several guns inside. No one was sure what he might do.

Sources tell WOWT the man was in the military reserve and may have driven a military vehicle. They also say he may be in custody with military authorities.

"It was business as usual and didn't affect emergency response," said OFD Capt. Tim McCaw.

All 25 Omaha fire stations were on what's called "controlled access," where doors remained closed. Any outsiders would have had to ring a bell if they wanted to get inside.
