The mother of a heartland Marine is worried that her son went off to war with unnecessary emotional stress caused by some lost luggage.
When 20-year-old Pfc. Ron Rosenburg flew home in June, he arrived without a uniform. His mother, Penny Bendaras, says that's because three uniforms he had packed in a military issued bag were lost somewhere between California and Omaha.
Four months have passed since then, but Bendaras says it is all still missing.
"I want to know how hard it is for a company that large to replace his uniforms or to find them," Bendaras said.
A customer service representative with American Airlines told Bendaras that the claim form sent in weeks ago was incomplete and her son will have to submit another one.
But Pfc. Rosenburg has already shipped out, and his mother says he went overseas worried more about his uniforms than about being in harm's way.
"He was very stressed, and I told him, 'I will take care of it,'" Bendaras said.
Six on Your Side contacted American Airlines' corporate communications. We are told the airline is searching for answers as to why the luggage has been missing for so long, and is working to unravel any red tape holding up the claim.
Bendaras estimates the cost to replace the uniforms is about $650. She says she just wants to fulfill her promise to her son.
"I just want to say, 'Son, I have your uniforms. They found them,'" Bendaras said.
