Vandals caught on tape are still on the run. A frustrated Omaha business owner hopes they can be identified.

A young suspect tries to hide his identity after realizing he's been tagged as a graffiti vandal by a security camera.

“Why do they do that, why do they want the community to look so bad?” wonders Libia Roller. The south Omaha accountant installed low light cameras around her tax business because the graffiti problem has become taxing. “I was tired of this problem with graffiti."

The camera paints a picture of how graffiti vandals operate, this time in a back alley. First a lookout signals all clear before pulling out a hidden spray can to mark up a dumpster. Then along comes an accomplice who paints a wall while attempting to hide his face. Realizing that it's too late, the vandal tries to cover up his identity by spraying the lens.

After spraying the security camera, the graffiti vandals became thieves. Not much was left of the camera. The estimated replacement cost is $1,000. The video shows the expensive camera ripped from the wall and stolen as the picture goes to black.

“I want to prove to police that we have the crime here,” says Roller. “They have to stop it. It's not art, it's vandalism."

She hopes someone can help identify the vandals. If you know who this person is, give Channel 6 News a call. You can leave a message at 233-7900.

My feeling is, these vandals can be caught. Set up survailance vehicles and catch these guys. Pull out all the guns and shoot em with tasors. South Omaha use to be a respectable community. Now, it's over run with vandals, thieves and illegals.

In these cases the parents should be punished along with the graffiti vandal. In most cases it is a young offender. parent should set limits on how late their kids can stay out and not two in the morning. This is a case of bad parenting.. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Im curious if anyone notices that it is all spanish or gang bang wanna be punks when it comes to graffiti.Get a life and not someones you have stolen.

Goes to show you what morons the taggers are...steal the camera thinking they can get away with their crime? The recording part of the aparatus (with the EVIDENCE, i.e. the TAPE) is located elsewhere. Dummies.

Kudos to Ms. Roller for taking action! The vandal's face is clearly visible, and it shouldn't be hard to find someone who will squeal on him. Thanks, WOWT for airing the story, however, it's recommended that the media do not show the vandal's tags in the clear. Graffiti abatement action groups recommend that shots of graffiti be blurred or photographed at an extreme angle to make it difficult to read. Highlighting the tags on regional television only give the tagger more attention and visibility. I urge everyone else to take action against graffiti. Take a few minutes each week (or month) to cover up a tag near your home, place of business, or somewhere in between. A can of Goop Off Graffiti Remover and a paper towel will easily remove marker tags from poles, utility boxes, etc. Use a can of spray paint to cover painted tags. Show the punks that your neighborhood is important. Consistent graffiti abatement is proven to reduce future tagging incidents. I've done it myself.

This is a growing problem in South Omaha. People need to start reporting any type of suspicious activity to 911.
