Vandals caught on tape are still on the run. A frustrated Omaha business owner hopes they can be identified.
A young suspect tries to hide his identity after realizing he's been tagged as a graffiti vandal by a security camera.
“Why do they do that, why do they want the community to look so bad?” wonders Libia Roller. The south Omaha accountant installed low light cameras around her tax business because the graffiti problem has become taxing. “I was tired of this problem with graffiti."
The camera paints a picture of how graffiti vandals operate, this time in a back alley. First a lookout signals all clear before pulling out a hidden spray can to mark up a dumpster. Then along comes an accomplice who paints a wall while attempting to hide his face. Realizing that it's too late, the vandal tries to cover up his identity by spraying the lens.
After spraying the security camera, the graffiti vandals became thieves. Not much was left of the camera. The estimated replacement cost is $1,000. The video shows the expensive camera ripped from the wall and stolen as the picture goes to black.
“I want to prove to police that we have the crime here,” says Roller. “They have to stop it. It's not art, it's vandalism."
She hopes someone can help identify the vandals. If you know who this person is, give Channel 6 News a call. You can leave a message at 233-7900.
