“Control what you can, and what you can’t you have to deal with.”

…I had a coach that always used to say this. I think it applies to playing sports as well as many things in life.

While channel surfing the other day I ran across Dr. G, Medical Examiner. She was doing an autopsy trying to determine a cause of death regarding a 62 year old man. She narrowed it down to 4 possible causes, 3 of which were considered preventable. Yikes!

And it hit me; I haven’t controlled what I can regarding my health. Coach would be disappointed.

There are some things regarding our health that are not in our control – like inherited conditions; but so many other things are in our control.

I find it ironic how much I like to be in control of things, and yet I haven’t controlled what I can with one of the most precious gifts I’ve been given. I think that’s the driving force for me. I want a good quality of life in my golden years and I don’t want to become a burden to my family; especially if it is something I could have controlled.

Wow – this is a pretty serious entry for someone described as “Happy-Go-Lucky”! I’m learning that I can’t be Happy-Go-Lucky when it comes to my health; I need to be serious, disciplined, pay attention and make a conscious effort to control what I can.

I’ll just be Happy-Go-Lucky with everything else!

Lynette, It's one of those things that we take for granted until something happens that we can't control. I'll be cheering you on teammate.
