Did you review the BetterU program for Week One? (I hope you’re doing the program with me!) Honestly, I really wasn’t expecting to get much out of it; afterall I’m a “professional dieter”; I’ve done other diets, schooled myself on nutrition; read lots of books -- but I’m kind of like the painter whose house needs painting; I have the ability and the knowledge, I just have trouble executing!
But I DID get a lot out of this week’s read!
I had been through goal setting exercises before through work and through other diet programs – even read some books on it! But a huge piece I learned through BetterU that had been missing for me was identifying road blocks to your goal. Sure – I may want to do this or that, but identifying up front what might keep me from accomplishing it is just as important as the goal itself. It helped me prepare and I’m starting to learn that preparation and planning are key for becoming a better me.
Two goals I set this week were to walk four times for at least 30 minutes and faithfully do my pushups and sit ups and I’m pleased to say I HIT (actually exceeded!) THOSE GOALS! It really helped to identify ahead of time what might keep me from that.
My reward?!? -- I scheduled myself a massage! I know . . . that’s a pretty significant reward for a seemingly small achievement, but getting started is often my biggest hurdle so I wanted to make sure the carrot I dangled was well worth it to me!
