Exercise Day at Washington Elementary
My class did more than a Marathon.

Monday was exercise day at our school. Students were encouraged to make an estimate of how many laps they thought they could run/walk in 30 minutes at the track. They sent back an estimation slip with their number. It was interesting to see the numbers that came back. Remember I teach Kindergarten.
I got numbers back anywhere from 4 to 30. Let's see that would be 1 lap for every minute. Well we did the walk/run. The students had a foot around their neck and I punched it each time they made a complete lap.
Some kids who had estimated 4 laps when they were finished with 4 they wanted to stop and I kept saying , "Keep going until we tell you to stop". Well it ended up that my class ran/walked 28 3/4 miles. Each lap equaled 1/4 of a mile. WOW!!!!!!
They were really excited to see how far they actually went. Many kids did a mile or more. I have 19 students in my class.
They really enjoyed it and I hope we do it again soon.
Everyone in our building was able to walk from the secretary to the janitor and everyone inbetween. We all enjoyed it and everyone received a "healthy snack" ( apple or banana) when we were finished.
Blessings,
Laurie
