Last Sunday I decided to exercise on our gravel road. I really don't like walking down the gravel road because I've followed coyotes down the road when I leave early in the morning for Atlantic. I also had a friend once who was chased down her gravel road by a rabid raccoon. I keep looking at the holes in the ditch thinking that a fox or badger was going to jump out. It's really hard on good shoes too. Well let me tell you what happened.

We don't have neighbors very close to us. I was walking down the road and our 6 month old Husky puppy decided to follow me. No problem I thought until Kiera (our puppy) went into the yard of our neighbor down the hill because they have a new hunting dog. They were all sitting out on their deck as well drinking coffee and eating breakfast.

Kiera would not listen to me and I didn't have her on a leash. She also didn't have a collar. She's never really been out of our yard. Well the neighbors put their dog in the garage. I picked up our dog and started walking up the hill. I was definitely getting my exercise with this short walk. I think she weighs about 30 pounds. I got to the top of the hill and let her down, thinking she would follow me home.

Wrong! She started running down the hill. I decided to run home and tell Gabe to take the truck back down the hill and get her. This is why I don't walk down our road very often.

One day when I was walking in Avoca my friend Trudy's neighbor has one of those little yappy dogs. It was not on a leash. It started to bark at me and Trudy was not with me. I literally had to act like I was going to kick it so it would get away from me.

Today as I was walking in Avoca there was a dead possum on the road. On the way out to the park there were also Turkey Buzzards. They sit in a tree by the river. They make me feel like I'm their food. Well today they had their wings spread out big, kind of scary looking. Like the movie "The Birds". I walked briskly by looking at them the whole time.

I hope you can share some interesting tales with me about your walking experiences as well.

Blessings,
Laurie
