Lazy Day - Planning for next week.
Today I made ahead some snacks to help me be better prepared for the week, thanks to Toni.

Today my body needed rest so that's what it got. I slept in and then felt guilty about not exercising. I guess I could still go in for a walk tonight if I wanted to. I did get my 5 days of walking /water aerobics in and my 2 days of resistance. That's probably why my body is tired.

On Friday I had gone to school to work with my friend Dara and I hadn't brought a snack because I thought we would have lunch. We were working on schedules and looking over our new Reading curriculum and it ended up being 2:30 and we hadn't eaten yet. We went to tour our building , which is under "major" construction because they're putting in air-conditioning and new windows. I didn't get home until about 4:00. That's a long time for me not to eat.

Toni, the dietitian, said I was a "grazer". That isn't a bad thing it just means that I like to eat 5 or 6 smaller meals in a day instead of 3 large meals. I decided when I turned 50 that my metabolism wasn't what it used to be so I changed the way I eat to more small meals in a day.

I have a protein shake in the morning before I exercise and when I'm done I have my bowl of oatmeal. Then I have lunch about 12 and then a snack around 4:00 and then I eat supper about 7 and I might have another snack later. That's why I'm a grazer, I eat all day long.

I brought in some of my favorite snack foods when I met with Toni and she helped me with portion size. She said to rotate my snacks from day to day. I also have a hard time getting in the 4 fruits she wants me to get in daily, so I tried using dried fruit.

What I did today was make snack bags of mix to take with me. I also looked up recipes for other healthy snacks that appealed to me. You'll see I like "crunchy" food. I also like chocolate and nuts. Pre-bagging these makes me stick to the portion size.
I hope you'll try some of my snacks.
