This post will be a little random, but there is a lot of stuff I want to tell you about!
The screening
So on Saturday I had a health screening so we know where I am starting from. First of all, I have to thank the team from Alegent Health-they were great! I felt like they were totally behind me and that they will be there for me throughout this whole thing!
I had a blood test to check my cholesterol. The good news is that my cholesterol is actually pretty good-all within the recommended ranges! I had no idea what it would be, I've never had it tested. To be honest, I've never even thought about it!
Then I had a fitness test with Stacey, who is going to be my exercise physiologist for the next 12 weeks. The test also went better than I anticipated! I had to do some crunches, squats, a 6 minute walk, and some push ups. I actually laughed aloud when she told me to do the push ups, but I got through them!
The part I wasn't happy with was the weight part! That is really going to be my focus during this program. I was not pleased with where I fell on the body mass index, and I am determined to make huge improvements in that area!
Week One Goals
As part of the Betteru online course, I had to set goals for this week.
1. I will find 45 minutes, 5 days this week, this engage in physical activity.
2. I will cook at least 2 healthy meals for my family. (I made one last night, see below!)
3. I will eat a healthy breakfast every morning. (eating yogurt and some fruit as we speak!)
I think my goals are very realistic because they are small and things I am really commited to. What are YOUR goals for YOURSELF this week? What reward will you give yourself if you accomplish them? I'm here to cheer you on and help you accomplish your goals just as much as I hope you will do this same for you!
Day One
Day one was a huge success!! I know that the battle will be keeping it up over the next 12 weeks. I know that there will be days that I just can't get moving or I just have to have a quick, fast food dinner. I think knowing those days are going to come is helpful.
A big thank you and shout out to Pippy and Dingo (my sister and my aunt-long story on their nicknames!) for walking Walnut Creek Lake with me! I ain't gonna lie, it is a tough walk, but I felt great afterwards and I am looking forward to doing it again. It really helps me to have someone to work out with me!
Also, a huge thank you to all of my friends and family for all of the support I have received so far! I can't not believe how many comments I had on my blog yesterday! I can not do this without you!! Once again I am reminded of how lucky I am to be surrounded by so many amazing people! Love you guys!
Kendall's not happy
I will just end with a quick story about how Kendall (my two year old) feels about this getting healthy stuff. Every morning she asks for juice and her daddy's get her some (he is wrapped pretty tightly around that finger!). So yesterday I said no juice, milk or water because we are getting healthy! Then after lunch she asked for some cookies. Again I said no because "We're getting healthy!" At the grocery store she wanted to buy donuts "Nope, we're getting healthy." She looked at me and said "Mom, let's not get healthy...it's not fun!" If that isn't a reason to make this change right now, I don't know what is!"
Until Next Time,
Jennie
P.S. I have decided that Wednesdays will be food day here on this blog. I will post a healthy recipe that I have cooked for my family, and let you know their thoughts on it. And I want all of you to post your heart healthy, low fat recipes on here as well. If I am going to make this change, I need to have good, healthy, kid and husband friendly recipes!!
