Chevelle Herring scored a game-high 21 points with a career-best five three-point field goals to lead Creighton to an 82-68 win over Denver Sunday afternoon at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.

She also tied her career-high with six assists. Megan Neuvirth added her second straight double-double with 12 points and team-leading 13 rebounds while Kelsey Woodard chipped in 18 points along with four three-pointers.

CU (2-3) shot 47.8 percent from long range, making 11 three-pointers.

Denver (1-3) scored the first seven points of the game and built a 13-2 lead less than four minutes into the game, but the Bluejays responded with an 11-0 run to even the game at 13 with 13:43 left in the first half.

DU would take a 25-19 lead, only to have the Jays score the next seven points, keyed by three-pointers from Stephani Rhoten and Woodard.

There would be nine lead changes in the opening half, before the Jays closed the half with a 5-0 spurt to take a 41-38 lead into the break.

Creighton knocked down 7-of-13 three-pointers in the first half. The Pioneers shot 56 percent from the field to keep within striking distance of the Jays despite 13 first-half DU turnovers.

The Bluejays slowly pulled away in the second half, thanks in part to solid rebounding in the final 20 minutes. The Jays out-worked DU 24-14 on the glass in the second half, including 11 offensive boards for the Jays after halftime.

Up 70-61 with 6:19 left, the Jays held Denver without a field goal over the next four minutes as their lead ballooned to 14. The Jays led by as many as 16 in the second half before the final 14-point margin of victory.

The Jays shot 53.8 percent (14-26) in the second half and finished 44.8 percent (26-58) from the field in the game. The Bluejay bench scored a season-high 20 points, helped by eight points from Kellie Nelson and seven points and seven rebounds from Kelsey Crites.

Ashly Robinson led the Pioneers with 12 points while Celena Otero and Britteni Rice added 11.
