Creighton held off a rally by Louisiana-Monroe Thursday night to take the opener of a three game series by a score of 8-5.

The series will serve up the Jays' final regular season games before the Valley tournament, May 21 in Wichita.

Thursday's game was scoreless into the third when the floodgates opened up.

CU loaded the bases on two walks and an error. Drew Graham hit Steve Winkleman and it was 1-0 Creighton.

Two more walks and a fielder's choice made it 4-0. Brett Mieras singled home a run to give the Jays a 5-0 lead.

Elliot Soto contributed a two-run single and the third inning ended 7-0 Bluejays on just 2 hits.

Monroe rallied for five runs in the 5th, but the Jays added one in the sixth to seal the 8-5 win.
