The Eyes Have It

The “eyes” have it at Creative Hair Design Salon and Spa in Omaha! Eyelash extension to be exact.

It’s the latest rage. Women like Pam Schwalb love them. “I don’t have to wear mascara anymore,” she says.

The extensions provide length and thickness to the existing eyelash. I didn’t realize this…but our natural eyelash actually falls out every 60 to 90 days. A new lash usually grows in immediately. But for some women, the amount and thickness and length of the lashes are less as they grow older.

Eyelash extensions are semi –permanent. Made from synthetic and now silk fibers. They’re also pricey -- $250 for the first application and $40 to $45 for “fills” every two to three weeks.

Creative Hair Design Esthetician Sonia Spanheimer says “expect to spend at least an hour” initially. She says eyelash extensions are safe to wear whether you’re swimming, showering or exercising.

“The only thing to be careful about is your eye makeup remover. Don’t use an oil based product. Other than that, there are no restrictions.”
