Summer Reading
There's nothing like a good book to read on summer vacation. I've come up with several recommendations from book sellers to plain old readers among friends and family.

There's nothing like a good book to read on summer vacation. Whether you're vacationing on the beach or in a hammock in your own back yard, a "good read" is always good company.

After talking with several enthusiastic readers, I've come up with a list of "good reads" for you.

Diana Abbott of The Bookworm..a local bookstore here in Omaha recommends Why Shoot The Butler by Georgette Heyer. Heyer was a British mystery writer. Her novels are being resurrected and sold in hard cover again. Abbott says this is a "fun summer read that will go down well with a glass of chardonnay!"

For the non-fiction fans...Signing Their Lives Away - (The Fame and Misfortune Of The Men Who Signed The Declaration of The United States)...by Denise Kiernan.

Abbott calls this one "snarky but cheerful." She says you may be on the waiting list for this...its "flying off the shelf."

Another recommendation comes from my sister-in-law Rose who's connected with Prairie Lights, a locally owned bookstore in Iowa City, Iowa.

Her recommendation? The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, by Alan Bradley. This one can be a little tough to read because of the format but for crime novel fans...it's a "must read."

My mom Joyce, another voracious reader says The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls is a quick read that takes you into the lives of a dysfunctional family. She says it will make me appreciate more the way I was raised! Its on my list Mom!

None of these books are "new." They've been out for some time. Also, a "good read" can be subjective. Perhaps you have your own recommendations.

If you have any "good reads" that you would like to share, let me know. In the meantime, get carried away with a good book this summer.

Bon Voyage and happy reading!
