Looking for stress relief? Who isn't!
If you'd like to quiet your mind, release your thoughts or understand your feelings, you may want to check out a labyrinth.
A labyrinth is an ancient form of prayer using movement as sort of a "mini" pilgrimage. We have just the place -- about a 20 minute drive west of the Omaha city limits.
It's nestled in a wooded area along the Platte River at Knowles Mercy Spirituality Center. The center is owned by the Sisters of Mercy but women of all faiths are welcome!
Spiritual Director Marisa Gilbert says a labyrinth can assist women in "centering themselves, finding balance and wholeness and connecting oneself to the divine."
Women are welcome to walk the labyrinth anytime. Brochures are available to help guide you through the different arms of the labyrinth. Your "walk' is totally up to you -- whatever your concern or focus.
Gilbert says, "Women find a calmness when they enter into this
reflective state of prayer." Sometimes just having a physical place to
lay your burden can be a relief. It’s a place to "be still."
There is no cost to walk the labyrinth. It’s free. Cheaper than any spa and it could bring lasting benefits.
If you are in need of more in-depth spiritual direction, that’s available too. A number of retreats and programs are held throughout the year at "Knowles" with various motivational and faith based speakers. There is also a book club and other social events available for women.
You can check out their website at kmscenter.org. If you would like to take advantage of the labyrinth, call ahead at 359-4288.
