Someone's in the kitchen with your kids!
They're tying on aprons and dusting off flour with chefs at The Classy Gourmet. The Omaha gourmet food shop and school is offering summer cooking camps for kids. No play time here. It’s about learning to cook, for real!
Chef and owner Coleen Cleek tells me the kids will be cooking from scratch entrees like chicken picatta and desserts such as creme brule!
Cleek also says by the end of the week long class, the kids will be able to prepare these foods on their own or with the help of a parent.
The "campers" will also learn kitchen safety when using the stove and even knives. They'll learn to use an 8 inch chef's knife to cut and chop!
Cleek is quick to point out, "No injuries yet."
Kids in the kitchen can be fun, Mom and Dad. In fact Cleek says they're usually pretty easy to work with. Most have been kept out of the kitchen, so they haven't formed any bad cooking habits yet.
There are five sessions of kids' cooking camps offered at the Classy Gourmet for kids ages 5 to 14. Boys and girls!
Cost for a week-long camp, Monday through Friday, ranges from $245 to $265, depending on the age of the child. Individual classes for older kids are also planned.
For more information you can call the Classy Gourmet at 955-2665 or check out their website at theclassygourmet.com. Hurry though -- classes fill up fast!
By the way, mention you read about the kids' culinary camps on this website and you'll receive a $20 coupon off the price of a camp!
