Courthouse roof still hanging over Cass county. A new slate roof was installed months ago. Leaks continue and the most recent Cass County Board of Commissioner meeting echoed the same tone of a meeting one year ago this month.
“There’s a lot of work to be done just to fix the project,” said architect Jerry Berggren who, before the last meeting, provided commissioners with a list of what needs to be done.
Scott Enterprises was awarded a $431,405 contract in July of 2009 with an estimated completion time of 130 days. The work started in November of 2009. Crews didn’t leave the roof until March of 2011. Scott representatives and other investigators have returned several times to deal with leaks in the roof. The final payment to Scott has not been made.
This is from a Cassgram report on April 26th of 2011: ---It’s time to start looking at the “litigation end,” said board chairman Jim Peterson. He indicated the board’s building committee, the county attorney and Berggren’s office will be conferring in the next few days to “decide the next course of action.”---
During the last two board meetings, commissioners heard separate reports from both the architect and the contractor that said neither is responding to the other’s questions.
Peterson said he was speaking on behalf of all the board members when he said “Our patience level is gone. We want to get this thing done. Whatever has to be done—we want to do it.”
Berggren replied that until Scott formally responds to the letter containing the corrections that are needed, it’s “speculation” on what needs to happen next.
