Purse Snatch Victim Thanks Strangers

A woman who needs a portable oxygen tank to help her breathe was out of breath after chasing a man who grabbed her purse.

She asked not to be identified because a suspect hasn't been caught. She had gone to the grocery store at 84th and Giles in Papillion last Saturday about 9am.

While looking at the daisies outside the entrance a man grabbed her purse and ran. The woman told Six On Your Side, "I started to chase him believe it or not. My oxygen tank dropped and then I stopped dead cold because I lost all my energy."

She yelled for help and five customers responded. Two chased the man but he drove off before they could catch him. Two other bystanders got a license plate number but that clue led to more questions.

The plate number belonged to a 2010 Prius rented and returned to the airport. Papillion police said a woman using New Jersey license and credit card rented the car.

Detective Curtis Cotton said, "We weren't able to find anyone with that name that may have been on any airlines so we're hoping its actually a local person."

The victim had a credit card used at a convenience store before canceled. She also had several birthstone rings and a 1921 Silver Dollar in the purse.

Anyone with information should contact Papillion police.

The purse snatch victim said she hugged the strangers who stayed to help her after the traumatic event. She said, "It was very kind of them to be good Samaritans."

One of the witnesses, off-duty firefighter Anthony Strawn , said he couldn't catch the purse snatcher. However he and other customers made sure the disabled victim was breathing properly after her oxygen tank fell when she chased the suspect.
