Police say a quick response time and a little help from neighbors allowed them to detain several people believed to have played a role in Omaha's latest shooting Saturday afternoon.
Two groups of young men were talking in the area of Martin and Redick avenues around 3:30 p.m. when guns were drawn and shots fired. One neighbor said she heard seven shots.
When officers arrived a teen was on the ground, wounded in the upper torso. He was taken to Creighton University Medical Center in critical condition.
Four young men were detained by police. “Sounds like both sides were possibly shooting at each other and we're putting that all together and will interview witnesses and we'll be transporting some of them downtown,” said Omaha Police Lt. Mark Matuza.
"I think there was some running around and actually shooting at each other as they were running around. We do have some evidence that would indicate that."
