Experience is still a valuable asset in getting a job but more specifically these days it's experience on a computer that can give an applicant the edge over all the others.
With that in mind, Goodwill is offering a free computer training class under the READY program for those who want to either develop or polish their computer skills.
Sandra Ferrucci teaches the class and she told Channel 6 News, "People looking for jobs have to have computer skills.they have to be able to navigate a computer.."
For right now that's a problem for Anthony Dixon of Omaha.
"I lost my job after 22 years so I figured I needed to come here and get some skills," Anthony said in an interview with Channel 6 News.
There is no charge for the class that meets three times a week and it's a six week session.
Anthony said "I don't know anything about the computer, these days you need to know if you want to get anywhere."
The success of a former student underscores what can happen.
She lost her job and enrolled in the class.
Ferrucci said, "And she got her computer skills up to the point where that same company hired her back and she's working there now."
Jeff Reynolds is new to the class. He is also seeking a job.
"I have basic skills," he said. " I just want to upgrade so that I can be better prepared."
