No To Later Bar Closing Time

The Cass County Board votes against 2am bar closing time. The Cassgram reports commissioners saw both sides of the argument, but a 3 to 2 vote to disapprove a resolution keeps bars putting the corks back in the bottles at 1am. The county board’s vote affects only those establishments recommended for state license approval through county channels.

In 2010 the state gave cities and counties—whichever has jurisdiction—the authority to decide if their local establishments can stay open until 2am.

Some towns, like Louisville and Nehawka, have approved the extra hour of on-sale. Some, like Plattsmouth, have not had a vote on the issue.

Last month, Robin Garner, one of the owners of Tiki Time at Rock Bluff Road and Highway 75, asked commissioners for the 2am closing time. District 5 Commissioner Ron Nolte’s motion to table for 30 days was approved. He said he wanted to hear from other county establishments.

Auto-calendared for this week’s meeting, a resolution for the 2am closing was on the agenda.

District 4 Commissioner Dave Nielsen made the motion to disapprove the resolution. He said the 1am closing time provides plenty of time for alcohol consumption.
