A 26-year-old Creston woman died after the SUV she was driving collided with a deer on Highway 34 near Red Oak on Tuesday night. A 9-year-old girl in the vehicle was flown by medical helicopter to Omaha.
The accident happened just after 7 p.m. on Highway 34 near mile marker 44.
The SUV, driven by Shawna Curtis struck a deer. The deer went through the windshield, and hit Curtis. The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled once.
Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lydia Powell, age 9, was flown by medical helicopter to Creighton University Medical Center.
Both Curtis and Powell were wearing seatbelts.
