New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain is using charitable donations to encourage kids in his hometown of Lincoln to exercise and be active.

Chamberlain, who is recovering from surgery on his pitching elbow, was in Lincoln Monday to help dedicate a new $25,000 walking track at Holmes Elementary. Chamberlain donated $1,000 to the project and arranged for Major League Baseball to donated another $1,000.

Community events will be held at the track each month to help raise money for schools.

Chamberlain says he's fortunate to be able to help others because of his success in baseball.

Chamberlain, who played for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in college, also donated enough money to buy cameras and projectors for five classrooms at Holmes.
